Rockwell Collins, Burgess Hill

Project Summary

SCS Roofing Services visited site to survey 2 no. steel clad roofs with rooflights. The client under the terms of their lease had to renew the roofs.

It was our opinion that the most cost efficient and long-term solution was to over-sheet the roof down to the gutter and then to repaint the barrel edge. Due to the height of the building a large amount of scaffold had to be erected prior to us commencing work. The existing 57 no. outer skin of the double skin translucent sheets were replaced with matching profile GRP roof sheets. To improve the insulation within the building a fibreglass insulation quilt was laid over the existing roof. A lightweight grid system was fixed to the existing steel purlins and Single skin profiled metal sheeting installed. The sheets were 0.7mm thick with a 0.2mm PVC Plastisol outer coating.

Translucent roof sheets were incorporated into the over sheeting above the replaced sheets in the existing roof. The over sheet was completed with all necessary steel flashing pieces in a colour chosen by the client. The total sheeted area was approximately 920 square metres.

To the gutters we installed a new purpose manufactured gutter liner made from a high performance reinforced continuous roll of Firestone ultraply membrane. The barrel edge was cleaned and prepared and then painted silver to match the rest of the cladding. The contract was completed very quickly without any disruption to staff and the internal refurbishment of the offices continued as scheduled.

As with all our projects, planning and communication with our clients was key to a smooth running contract.
