Project Summary

SCS Roofing Services visited site to survey an old asbestos cement roof on a building that the client had just purchased.  The client had identified leaks in various areas throughout the building.

The roof covering was reaching the end of its life and the roof sheets were severely delaminated. The existing translucent roof sheets had reached the end of their life and natural daylight transmission was severely reduced. As the client was renovating the whole building we recommended the roof be stripped and re-sheeted. Safety netting was installed internally and scaffold erected to the exposed edges to allow the works to be undertaken safely. The existing roof sheets were removed, lowered to ground level on a fork-lift, placed into skips and removed from site. As the existing purlins were concrete we fitted new purpose manufactured steel flashings onto them so that the sheets were secured with a steel to steel fixing. New 120mm thickness composite panel metal sheeting was fitted with factory assembled triple skin rooflights to provide natural light internally. The total sheeted area was approximately 580 square metres. On one side the new roof was extended past the existing gutter and a new half round gutter was fitted to the outside. On the other side higher level flat roof meant that a gutter liner was fitted to the existing gutter.

The contract was completed on time, with minimal disruption. As with all our projects, planning and communication with our clients was key to a smooth running contract.

After this contract we also replaced the flat roof over the offices with a new built up felt system and then at a later date we clad the walls of the building to enhance it’s appearance.
