Project Summary

After an initial enquiry from an existing client regarding a number of roofs, SCS Roofing Services visited site to survey the problems and discuss the options available.  The client had identified numerous leaks in various areas throughout their buildings.

  • 3 no. felt roofs were leaking
  • 1 no. asbestos cement gutter needed replacing
  • 2 no. concrete gutters were leaking
  • 16 no. translucent roof lights had holes in and were leaking

The 3 no. felt roofs we replaced using a built up felt system which included 2 no. layers of high performance elastomeric roofing felt.

To 1 no. of the roofs the deck had to be replaced using new sterling board.
The felted roofs area was approximately 285 square metres.

In addition 7 no. roof lights were replaced and on 1 no. roof the parapet walls were capped and sealed in using plastisol coated steel flashings.

The old asbestos cement guttering was dismantled, lowered to ground level and then removed from site by a company that hold an Environment Agency hazardous waste transport licence.

We then supplied and fitted a new large capacity half round gutter complete with all necessary brackets, connectors, outlets and stop-ends. In addition 2 no. new down-pipes were fitted.

Due to a lack of depth in the concrete gutters and an adjacent section of vertical glazing it was not possible to fit a liner into the gutters. We therefore coated the gutters with a fibre reinforced resin based compound to ensure they were sealed.

The existing 16 no. translucent roof sheets were systematically removed and new, Big Six profile, translucent roof sheets installed.

The new translucents were manufactured from GRP to BS 476 part 3 with a fire rating of Grade SAA 1. The GRP is protected with a standard ultra-finish.

Sheets were fastened using precision-formed fixings and all side and end laps were sealed with a closed cell, self-adhesive, EPDM, expanded foam tape which provides a weather tight seal.

As with all our projects, planning and communication with our clients was key to a smooth running contract.
